Purpose: Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) at all times to provide a full range of therapeutic interactions to patients whilst maintaining respect for the individuality, confidentiality and dignity of all patients.
To engage with patients who are distressed and anxious, or simply in need of some company.
To read quietly to patients if requested and at appropriate times.
To escort/walk with patients who are wandersome.
To help to therapeutically distract patients, for example, playing cards, memory boxes and photographs ect.
Talking and listening to patients, and if appropriate , informal chats over a cup of tea.
Part of your role is to encourage patients to be aware of their nutritional and hydration needs,
and assist with nutrition and hydration where are appropriate to do so. It is really important to check with RN in charge before you assist with feeding any patients.
Provide support for patients who may need to leave the ward to attend other areas of the hospital.
Time needed from Volunteer:
Committed over a six month period.
To volunteer a minimum of 2 hours a week.
Skills Experience & Qualifications:
Passionate about people with a person-centred approach.
Friendly and outgoing personality.
All training will be provided to fulfil role.
