Purpose: This project brings together the benefits of volunteer work and engaging with nature to help improve people's confidence, sense of purpose, independence, social relationships, self-esteem and their ability to relax.
To liaise with community members, school staff and students who need additional support to develop a community orchard and at a later stage an allotment on spare ground in a designated area of Hartlepool.
Fruit and vegetables will be harvested and utilised for the benefit the local community and local food banks. .
There will be many opportunities to volunteer in this project.
Practical tasks will include work such as laying paths, cutting and planting trees, creating a wetland area and sharing expertise.
Tea making will definitely be a skill !!!!!- creating publicity, drawing in members of the community, coordination, secretarial,to support with fundraising – organisation have some funds to date. .
Time needed from Volunteer:
2 hours on a Wednesday morning each week, this may increase as project develops.
Would be required to undergo a DBS clearance.
Support and supervision given by organisation.
Support in terms of training will be sought by organisation which will include:
Health and safety
Expenses will be reimbursed.
6 week trail period.
Project to commence February 2020 and will be an ongoing opportunity.
Skills Experience & Qualifications:
Personal qualities. will include:
The ability to work as part of a team to develop the community orchard for the benefit of the local community including pupils from the primary schools.
To be enthusiastic, supportive and patient particularly with students. .
Gardening skills /building skills would be a distinct advantage
