Purpose: A new and local support service for people living with disabilities and mental health difficulties benefiting from animal assisted therapy.
Animal-assisted therapy is an alternative or complementary type of therapy that includes the use of animals in a treatment to aid recovery from health problems or to help people cope with certain medical conditions and has many benefits such as helping with personal and social development, increased self-esteem, improved mental health, better social skills, and increased empathy and nurturing skills.
Therapeutic support workers will provide practical and emotional support to those who access the services activities. Provide emotional support, transport support and assist other staff members in providing a safe and therapeutic environment.
Driver would be desirable, however not essential for each role, mileage and refreshments are provided depending on the nature of the activity session.
Some of the activities may have limited access or be more physically demanding than others however these can be discussed on an individual basis.
Time needed from Volunteer:
Days and times to be discussed and arranged in initial informal induction with service.
Skills Experience & Qualifications:
Enjoy working with people and animals, empathic, positive and energetic.
Full clean driving licence.
16 minimum age, no maximum age however some activities can be slightly physically demanding.
If potential volunteer has no prior experience on the job training can be offered and accredited training needs can be resourced for further development.
Ensure policies and procedures are followed to ensure all people and animals are safeguarded and activities are tailored to the needs of the group/individuals depending on service user support plans.
All potential volunteers are continuously supported throughout to deliver a high standard of good practice.
