To assist the family support team in providing drop-in sessions and children and young people’s sessions across the Tees, Esk and Wear Valley. The family support team supports families, parents, carers, children and young people aged 0-18, who may be affected by autism, ADHD, sensory diversity and foetal alcohol syndrome. The team provide support no matter where a person is on their journey – pre, during and post diagnosis

• To attend the weekly drop-in sessions, held out in
community venues
• To welcome parents/carers to the drop-in sessions, serving
tea, coffee and biscuits
• To support parents/carers complete the registration form
and support with any other administrative tasks
• To provide an empathetic listening ear to parents/carers
• To support the family support leader deliver children and
young people’s small group sessions on a weekly basis, once
a week for six weeks, on a rolling programme. It is
imperative that there is a commitment to the full six weeks
due to neurodiverse children and young people not being
able to cope with change
• To participate in relevant training and development

Time needed from Volunteer:
Between 2 and 8 hours per week - to be discussed with the organisation.

Skills Experience & Qualifications:
• To possess some knowledge and understanding of
neurodiversity would be beneficial (Autism, ADHD, Sensory
• Must be able to have a calm, empathetic approach to
parents/carers, children and young people
• Excellent communication and listening skills
• Good written skills
• Ability to work as part of a team, be able and willing to
follow instruction, be able to use own initiative when
• Friendly and approachable, honest and reliable
• Dedicated, committed and consistent in their role
