Purpose: We want sociable and friendly people to be a guiding arm and eyes for someone with sight loss, so they can get out into the local community doing a range of activities as part of our My Guide service.
Paired with someone with similar interests, for a pre agreed period of time, you will provide a safe, guiding arm to support someone with sight loss to do the sociable fun things that will help them live life to the fullest. This can include activities ranging from a cuppa and chat, to swimming, the gym, knit and natter, theatre, sports events to visiting areas of local interest. This will be at venues across your local area depending on what you decide to do together.
Time needed from Volunteer:
The time commitment is flexible and would suit your availability.
Skills Experience & Qualifications:
You should have or aim to gain the following skills: -
• Friendly and happy to have a go at different activities
• Like chatting to people and getting out and about
• Sensitive to the needs and feelings of others
• Experience of people with sight loss is an advantage but not essential; full training is given before you can be matched with your partner.
